FlightSimWeekend today announced that the world’s premier flight simulation event will return on 3 – 4 April, 2027. Following a period of unprecedented growth and a record-breaking 2026 edition, the organization is moving to a new professional convention center: Expo Houten (Utrecht), located in the heart of the Netherlands.
Since its inception in 1998, FlightSimWeekend has evolved from a local enthusiast gathering into an internationally recognized trade show. The 2026 edition saw attendance climb to nearly 5,000 visitors, prompting the move to a more central, high-capacity facility that can support the global flight sim community.
Centrality and Connectivity
The transition to Expo Houten (Utrecht) places the event in the absolute geographic center of the Netherlands. By relocating to the Utrecht area, FlightSimWeekend significantly enhances accessibility for all attendees and exhibitors, ensuring the shortest possible travel times for the majority of the Dutch and European flight sim community.
The venue is positioned directly on major highway arteries like the A27 and is exceptionally easy to reach via the Netherlands’ primary rail hub, Utrecht Centraal, combined with efficient local public transport. International guests will find the new location highly convenient, as it is situated less than 45 minutes by car or train from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
Often called “Tiny Amsterdam,” Utrecht offers iconic winding canals and historic wharf-side terraces without the heavy tourist crowds. Visitors can climb the famous Dom Tower, explore the world-class Railway Museum, or enjoy a craft beer at a waterside cellar café. It is a vibrant, medieval city that combines cozy charm with big-city culture, making it the perfect backdrop for your weekend stay during FlightSimWeekend.
A New Chapter for the Global Community
“FlightSimWeekend has reached a pivotal moment,” said Jannes van Gestel (FlightSimWeekend). “By moving to Utrecht, we are placing the event in the most accessible spot in the country. Expo Houten (Utrecht) provides the professional infrastructure and central location needed to support our community’s continued growth, by offering a modern venue for even bigger and more exciting opportunities for both attendees and exhibitors alike.”
While the move marks a change in scenery, the commitment to the hobby remains unchanged. The new venue offers expanded floor space for exhibitors and more comfortable amenities for visitors. Magnus Lorvik (FlightSimWeekend) added that while the organization is proud of its legacy in Lelystad, the centrality of Utrecht and the modern facilities at Expo Houten (Utrecht) ensure a world-class, seamless experience for every virtual pilot, developer, and enthusiast.
Full details regarding the 2027 edition will be released in the coming weeks.
