Microsoft Flight Simulator made a landmark appearance today, marking its first-ever participation as an official exhibitor at FlightSimWeekend. The morning keynote, delivered to a capacity crowd on the FSElite Stage, emphasized Microsoft’s commitment to the European simulation community and provided a roadmap for the simulator’s continued evolution.

In a move that thrilled local enthusiasts, the team announced the immediate release of the Fokker F27 Friendship. Developed in close collaboration with iniBuilds, this legendary Dutch turboprop has been recreated with painstaking attention to detail, featuring authentic cockpit systems and a sound set recorded from one of the few remaining airworthy airframes. Accompanying the aircraft is City Update 14: The Low Countries, which introduces high-resolution photogrammetry for major Dutch and Belgian hubs.

Beyond software, the Microsoft booth became one of the weekend’s most popular destinations as attendees were invited to test the highly anticipated PlayStation VR2 integration. This expansion brings high-fidelity, plug-and-play virtual reality to the console ecosystem for the first time.

“Our goal is to make the sky accessible to everyone, regardless of their hardware choice,” stated a Microsoft representative. “Seeing the reaction of pilots experiencing the cockpit in VR on a console platform today proves that we are just scratching the surface of immersion.”

FlightSimWeekend is the world’s largest dedicated flight simulation event. The event brings together thousands of enthusiasts and hundreds of international exhibitors annually to celebrate the past, present, and future of flight simulation technology.
